Still hungry for more?? Let's get to the nitty gritty. Bring on the fun facts!
1. I danced in the Super Bowl halftime show when I was 15
Even crazier? I'm genuinely not a dancing prodigy. I am very comfortable saying I likely got onto my dance team because I had a really big smile and knack for making fun faces when I danced. But that's a-okay because I met Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas and checked doing the splits off my bucket list! Let's all just be glad I didn't trip and land on my face on national television.
2. I've broken a world record
But I didn't know I would break the record when I woke up that morning! I was visiting my family in El Paso, and we decided to go to a football game together... in the middle of winter. It was freezing cold at the Sun Bowl (oh the irony) so my family and I all warmed up at the halftime show by dancing the YMCA performed live by Village People. Apparently the crowd was so big that we broke a world record! I always use this one and the Super Bowl fact for two truths and a lie, and it's so fun to watch everyone try to guess if I'm some kind of supergirl. My lie is generally that I've been in an all-girl band--how fun would that be though?!
3. An entire section of my closet is dedicated to Lilly Pulitzer clothes!
It's my all-time favorite brand. There's something special about walking around feeling like a ray of sunshine in those fun dresses. You Gotta Regatta and Let's Cha Cha are my favorite prints, but I also love Sunkissed and Sailor's Valentine. I carry my books in a Lilly beach bag every day! I'm all about bright colors and a sunshiney mindset.
4. I went to an all-girls Catholic school for high school
And absolutely loved it! My Ursuline sisters are some of my closest friends. Years later, I'm still a mega fan of the school as one of the four alumnae agents for my class. Can you tell I won most spirited? (Shoutout to any UA bears reading this!)
5. I named my puppy after Emory's mascot, Dooley!
I was crazy excited to get into Emory, so I named my little munchkin after our skeleton mascot. My puppies are Dooley (right) and Oliver (left), two precious pocket beagles who live in Dallas with my folks. I miss them all the time! (Miss you too, Mom and Dad!)
6. I'm a southerner through and through! Specifically, a Texan.
I'm a Texan and proooouud of it! Though I'm temporarily a Georgia peach at Emory University, my heart belongs to the Lone Star State. I embrace Southern style and Southern graces in my lifestyle. My closet has quite a bit of seersucker, shift dresses, and button-down shirts, and I have a drawer full of thank you notes and monogrammed stationery. Of course, the Southern lifestyle is so much more than just the clothes you wear. It's about being kind, loving your family, and being proud of the community you come from. It's tradition and fried chicken and church on Sundays. (And a whoooole lot of Tex Mex where I come from!) I absolutely love my roots. Southern Girl Confession: I've never liked sweet tea!
7. My parents watch every single Ranger's game, so I have slowly become a fan by association.
YAY GO RANGERS! Just don't quiz me on baseball facts because I'll get nervous and probably fail hugely--but I'll always be the girl to start the wave, so come sit in my section at the games! If you're lucky, I might even share some popcorn with you.
8. I keep a written collection of all of my most embarrassing moments
I'm convinced that after a while almost everything can become one hilarious story to tell to strangers who don't want to talk to you in the elevator. It's really tough to embarrass me, so it takes quite the story to make the book!
9. My camp counselor name is Doubloon
Shoutout to Camp Kesem, a free camp for the children of cancer patients! I love going to club meetings and calling everyone by their camp names. It's like living in a Disney movie. "How are you doing, Buttercup?" "Had a good day, Maui? Tumble?" Though I love all of my extracurricular activities, my role as an operations committee member for Camp Kesem is definitely the my most rewarding commitment.
10. The inspiration for The Pink Spade sparked from a conversation about tattoos with my brilliant redheaded hippie friend!
I'd like to think a spade tattoo would beat a dolphin back tattoo any day. Of course this is all super hypothetical because I'm terrified of needles... well into my twenties. Sorry in advance for the next person who gives me a flu shot. So mom, you probably never have to worry about me getting a crazy tattoo in my twenties, but wouldn't a spade be amazing!? The answer is yes. Yes it would be.
Bonus fun fact: I met my brilliant, handsome, inspiring boyfriend of three years on the first day of college!! We love college adventures, taking classes like French and Social Dance together, and being goofy. I love you, James :)
