Have you ever met one of those girls who invites you to sit next to her when you know no one in the room? Whether it was at college orientation, Bid Day, or your first day at your job, you know the one. She’s the girl who smiles and introduces herself first out of nowhere--she makes you feel like you’ve been friends for years in your first conversation. When you speak, she really listens and always has something interesting to say back.

That’s the person I aim to be every single day. So pull up a seat and join me! I’m so happy you’re here.

I'm Katie, the voice behind the voice behind The Pink Spade. I'm a twenty-something college student from Dallas, Texas--and proooud of it! Though I'm temporarily a Georgia peach at Emory University, my heart is always in Texas. I embrace a southern preppy lifestyle--handwritten thank you notes, an obsession over hydrangeas and my sister's pecan pie, and a closet full of preppy prints and fabrics... oh, and a ton of monograms!

Even with the whole stereotype of friendly Southerners, I'm friendlier than most. In fact, I will probably be the friendliest person you'll meet today, unless of course you come across Elle Woods or Jesus--say hi from me, would you? I'm a big fan of both of them.

Like Elle Woods, I'm obsessed with the color pink, I'm in a sorority, and I recently got into law school!! Here's a picture of me openly weeping in the hat section of Barnes and Noble when I got my acceptance phone call:

Cute, right? Let's all just be glad they didn't take back their offer after hearing my neurotic sobbing. But seriously, this was one of the happiest days of my life! I worked my butt off in high school to get into Emory University, and I put my heart into my studies in college to get that acceptance letter. It's like kingdom come for a huge nerd like me who actually enjoys studying. I get three more years of studying--yay! (Still waiting to hear back from a few other law schools, so cross your fingers for me.) College has been such a blast for me--studying included! That's why I dedicated a whole chunk of the blog to college life. Whether you want advice on balancing a college lifestyle, getting into a challenging university, slaying your internship, or rushing a sorority, I've got the answers!

During my time at college, I've balanced a work-hard-play-hard schedule that has left me with a resume full of things I happily squeezed into my packed Lilly planner. But that's me! I love being really involved in my community and celebrating life as often as possible alongside the people I love. My life motto is "build a community wherever you go," and a big part of that is celebrating life with friends and family.

I'm the kind of girl with a drawer full of confetti and three huge bags of decorations for every holiday. (Not to mention the costume bag and the themed cocktail napkin drawer...) No matter where life takes me, I always bring my smile and positive attitude along for the ride! Sometimes glitter and my calligraphy pens come along for the ride, too.

That's why I dedicated another section of the blog to celebrations--in other words, all the fun parts of life that make me excited. You'll find tips for parties, crafting, traveling, and more in one of the happiest spaces on The Pink Spade. Bring on the sunshine and confetti, y'all! There's always a reason to celebrate here.

Another humungous part of my life is my Catholic faith. It's the foundation of who I am as a person. Throughout the joys, sorrows, stresses, and surprises of life, I'm always thinking of God and his unending love.

In my 15 years at Catholic school, I learned the importance of developing fellowship in faith, and I hope to extend that into The Pink Spade's community.  At The Pink Spade, we're all about spreading love and mindfully building virtue through our everyday actions. It's part of the blog's mission to inspire an excellent life. You'll find fun faith challenges, inspiring articles, and motivation to be the best version of yourself in this goodie bag of blog posts!

No matter what religion or spirituality you identify with, you'll relate to the inspiration that makes up the heart this section. It's all about defining excellence for yourself, encouraging yourself to pursue virtue, and being a good personYou definitely don't have to be a Christian to do those things! All are welcome here.
